Green message must be heard

May 19, 2009

Green leader Ryan Watson has been excluded from the televised leader's debates this evening, depriving Nova Scotians of the chance to hear the Green message of a vibrant economy and healthy environment.

"While the other parties argue about how to re-arrange the deck chairs, the Green Party is busy talking to Nova Scotians about how we will steer the ship," says Watson. "We can't pave our way out of the global economic crisis, and a few million in spending changes will not blunt the hardship of lost jobs and economic depression. We need a vision to guide us, and we need quick and intelligent action to move our province forward."

The Green Party offers a vision of a prosperous bright green future for Nova Scotia, and champions the practical policies that will make this vision a reality. The transition to a green economy will bring thousands of jobs and thriving new industries to Nova Scotia. The Green Party has a unique and valuable contribution to make to the political dialogue.

The CBC and the Chronicle Herald host the leaders debates, and these media outlets have a responsibility to Nova Scotians to bring them all the facts, and communicate all the options to voters. The Green Party will be running a full slate of candidates across the province, and excluding the party from the televised debates narrows the political horizons at a time when new thinking is desperately needed.

The Green Party encourages all Nova Scotians who support a thriving democracy to contact the CBC and Chronicle Herald and make it clear that they want to hear what the Green Party has to say in the June 2 televised leaders debate.
