Riding: Timberlea-Prospect

Candidate Name: Thomas Trappenberg

email: tt@cs.dal.ca

Thomas is a professor in Computer Science at Dalhousie University and lives with his wife Kanayo and two children, Kai (10) and Nami (7), in Hatchet Lake. He has been active with several community-based groups over many years, and was the candidate in Timberlea-Prospect in the last election.

Thomas has a long history with the Green Party, witnessing the rise of the movements in Germany, and being part of a handful of people to organize the foundation of the Green Party of Nova Scotia. Thomas was the elected representative of Nova Scotia on council of the Green Party of Canada, and has served in many capacities to educate the public on green opportunities.

While the Timberlea-Prospect has been blessed with a rural setting in an urban proximity, active steps must be taken to preserve the area while enhancing essential services such as bus routes, community facilities, and wilderness conservation areas. Residents in this riding pay urban taxes, but they do not get the benefits of other parts of the city. Thomas thinks that it is time to have more ambitious goals, and that opportunities should be taken now.
