Green Leadership
John Percy - Leader
"Responsibility means the ability to respond, and the Green Party is the only party that is meeting that challenge. I have the utmost faith that the Green Party is the party of the 21st century, able to respond to the urgent issues that now face us. It is my intention to devote my energy to assist in solutions to those issues."
John's political involvement started in high school as a volunteer in the Liberal camp.
He worked for two Liberal campaigns and was also a volunteer for Joe Clark's successful federal campaign. John also admires the intellect and integrity of Ed Broadbent and Stephen Lewis, and had lent his support to Peter Stoffer, before taking on the role of CEO of the Federal Green Party Sackville/Eastern Shore EDA. It is through this experience that John shaped his belief that good ideas can come from everywhere and should be considered on their merit alone without giving any weight to the partisan attachment.
In addition to working on behalf of the Green Party of Nova Scotia Electoral District of Sackville/Cobequid, John is Convenor of the Bedford Basin Regional District. He was a candidate for the Provincial Greens in the last election. John also currently sits on the Constitutional Review Committee for the GPNS, and is the Veterans Affairs Critic in the Green Party of Canada Shadow Cabinet.
John's involvement with the Green Party was born from a deep disillusionment with partisan politics as practiced by the old line parties, all of whom appear to be more interested in positioning themselves for advantage rather than governing. Like most Greens, John sees himself embracing fiscal conservatism, social liberalism and a healthy dose of personal responsibility for our lives and environment.
He was instrumental in the formation of the Karma group of food co-ops in Toronto, and served on their boards and as general manager. He is a strong believer in food safety and a long-time advocate for strong, local economies.
John has spent forty years as a professional in the entertainment business, working as a musician, stage manager, production manager, director and producer. He was a pioneer in the web casting industry, being producer and director on some of the first web casts generated in Canada. His ability to organize, budget, and develop timelines and strategies has earned him the respect of his peers in the industry.
