Riding: Cape Breton North
Candidate Name: Chris Milburn
email: milburn.chris@gmail.com
Chris is a 39-yr-old ER physician. A native Cape Bretoner, he spent 17 years living "away" before returning to Cape Breton 6 years ago.
Dr. Milburn has a long history of involvement with the Green Party, first running federally while living in Kingston Ontario in 2000. He was one of 200 invited attendees to "The Climate Project Canada" weekend in 2008 on global warming issues, taught by Al Gore and David Suzuki.
Chris has broad experience in medicine through 4 years working in family practice in a small village, and several years working part-time in injured worker rehabilitation. He has a much broader view of healthcare, which for him includes differentiating "sickcare" from "healthcare".
"I work in sickcare" says Chris. "It's important and necessary as a society to have good sickcare". But he also feels that this must be balanced with true "healthcare" which for him means a good education system, clean environment, and promotion of good diet and exercise habits through government policy.
Chris is an ironman triathlete and avid promoter of cycling and running. He runs a master's swim team, coaches running, and is a regular lecturer on cycling promotion through proper community design.
