Michael P. Milburn is the Green Party Candidate in Cape Breton Nova. He grew up connected to the land and people of Cape Breton Island. After graduating from Sydney Academy, Michael has lived in four Canadian provinces. He returned to Cape Breton in 2000, where he resides with his wife Kathy and daughter Katie.

Michael has a long time interest in Green politics and the challenge of developing a sustainable relationship between the human economy and nature. He is an avid outdoor enthusiast, having canoed and hiked extensively throughout Canada and Cape Breton.

He has been involved in energy and agriculture issues and served as a board member of the Waterloo Public Interest Research Group. In recent years, he has been involved in the Green Party at both Federal and Provincial levels.  Michael is active in his community and is currently president of the Cape Breton Vegetarian Association and serves on the Board of Directors of the Cape Breton Regional Library.

Michael has a background in both science and traditional medicine. Michael has had many vocational experiences from lifeguard to deckhand on a lobster boat. As a professor at Cape Breton University he was involved with integrative approaches to healing and has published on the health benefits of traditional diets, among other subjects. He is currently in private practice of integrative medicine, combining clinical practice of acupuncture, herbal medicine and nutrition with group programs of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and plant-based nutrition and cooking.
