Riding: Eastern Shore
Candidate Name: Michael Marshall
Michael Marshall grew up in Seaforth, along the Chezzetcook Inlet in,
the riding of Eastern Shore.
"My family moved to Seaforth in 1955 and my parents and sister still
live there full time - I have property there and I live to garden on
my plot and enjoy the view."
Michael is working to a deadline, to finish a book on Truro-born
medical researcher Dr MH Dawson.
"I didn't really think I had time to get involved in this election,
but I was propelled into the election when I heard the three main
leaders promising everything and anything to the voters to get elected
Premier."
"Dawson's battles with the medical establishment from the 1920s to
1940s occurred because he discerned real limits to what Science could
or should do - a very unpopular view in a time period historians have
labelled "The Exuberant Age" or "The Age Without Limits" .
"Faith in Man's ability to overwhelm Mother Nature and do whatever he
dreams of has diminished a great deal in Science and in the world
generally - but it seems to live on in the political culture of this
province."
Marshall says, " We are reaching the limits ,and well beyond, in our
demands upon Mother Nature's natural resources and it is these
bounties from the non-human world that underpin the ability of
government and commerce to deliver whatever we demand as consumers and
voters."
"The current economic crisis - based on a credit bubble collapsing
after a huge spike in Oil prices - should have been a wake-up call to
the three big old parties - but it hasn't."
"It is always disconcerting to the frugal-minded citizen whenever a
government borrows massively to spend money it hasn't got in an
effort to re-start the economy - it only can be justified when its
efforts have a worthy long term purpose, as well as acting as a short
term stimulus."
"We must remember how this economic crisis began - with a sharp spike
in petroleum prices last summer putting pressure on all the weakness
in the world economy. The Recession/Depression has cut fuel prices -
for now - but a reviving economy will find the reality of Peak Oil
(Mother Nature running out of Oil to feed our desires) again hitting
us hard and the 'ratchet affect' will drive us into another
recession."
"Only money put into renewable energy will both stimulate our
provincial economy and work to reduce energy-based economic recessions
from hitting us so hard in the future - I intend to say this at every
opportunity in this campaign."
