Sheila Richardson currently boards up to five International students from Acadia University, in her home in Wolfville. The students come from Saudi Arabia, China, Japan, Korea. She speaks and teaches English as a Second Language in her home. She runs her own business: "Rainbow Stitches" from her home and from a store in New Minas.
Sheila has a Masters Degree in Education from Dalhousie University and is a trained counsellor and mediator and works on Conflict Resolution. She has worked with the Family Courts and with Annapolis Valley Peacemakers.
As a counsellor at Adsum Centre, in Timberlea-Lakeside, Sheila has worked with homeless women and children. She also worked as a volunteer with the Kosovars, when they came to Canada from Kosovo. Sheila taught English as a Second Language to the Kosovars.
Sheila has run a pre-school playgroup in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia and has taught parenting and communication skills to early childhood professionals at the Froebel Centre, Truro.
After attending a "Call to Peace" Conference at Findhorn, Forres, Scotland, Sheila became a trained facilitator of "The Art of Living in Peace" a UNESCO endorsed 14 hour program.
Sheila has taught for nine years in England and Ireland, culminating in a Head of Geography position in a large comprehensive school of 1,200 students in Oxford, England.
Sheila has been on a journey of cancer and now runs a Breast Cancer Support Group at her store in New Minas. She also created and facilitated a "Prevent Cancer Now Seminar Series" at the Inner Sun Yoga Centre, Wolfville. Check out the website: www.preventcancernow.ca
Sheila is a Board Member of BCANS Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia and a Board member of Prevent Cancer Now a national organization.
Sheila has been working on the qualities of compassion and forgiveness.
