Brendan MacNeillBrendan MacNeill, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Nova Scotia is representing the party in the riding of Kings South.

Brendan Connell MacNeill was born in Halifax on December 5th, 1982. His first 17 years of life were spent in a small rural Nova Scotia community called Caribou. While growing up as a young boy in Caribou, Brendan became passionate for the natural world around him. He began working on an organic farm at a young age and later worked for Agriculture & Agri-foods Canada in Alberta as a summer student. During the summer of 2006 he was employed with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in Kentville, Nova Scotia. In recognition of his work on the Plum Pox Virus Team he was awarded a Nova Scotia Regional Award citing his Outstanding Team Effort, Reliability and Initiative. In 2007 Brendan spent 10 weeks in the small African country called Malawi, working with organic farmers through the World University Service of Canada. This past summer he spent working with a not for profit organization called the Clean Annapolis River Project in Annapolis Royal, where he participated in the riparian habitat restoration project to improve water quality in the Annapolis Valley.

Brendan comes from a small immediate family of 4. He has one sister, Keltie, who is studying photography with the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Brendan's father has a Bachelor of Arts in English as well as a Master Mariners certificate and currently works in the Bay of Bengal. His mother taught school for short period of time and now works in the wine industry.

Brendan attended King's-Edgehill College, for his final two years of high school, where he graduated with honors and was a member of the rugby team that won Provincial championship in 2001. After graduating from high school, Brendan attended Acadia University for one year and then on to Sir Sandford Fleming College where he was awarded an Environmental Technician Diploma. It was at college in 2004 while hearing Tim Holland speak at a candidate debate that Brendan became interested and involved with the Green Party of Canada and later the Green Party of Nova Scotia. Brendan ran in the last provincial election as a Green Party of Nova Scotia Candidate in the riding of Lunenburg West. He was also active in the Kings-Hants EDA and with Sheila Richardson's Campaign in the 2006 federal election. Brendan also ran in the 2008 Federal Election in the riding of Kings-Hants. Brendan will be returning to Acadia to complete his final year of a BSc in Environmental Science.
