My name is Kaleigh Brinkhurst and I am running as a candidate for the Green Party of Nova Scotia in the Truro- Bible Hill district. I am 19 years old and have successfully completed my first year in Agriculture Economics as an Atlantic Scholar at the NSAC. At the age of five I was diagnosed with type one diabetes which posed many challenges; challenges which I confronted and overcame. Within high school and my first year at the AC, I have been involved with several environmental groups. I am currently working with the NSAC Campus Sustainability group, the Organic NSAC Community Garden and the Living Earth Council. As a younger member of society, I want to see and be a part of change that will ensure we have a good environment, physically, mentally and financially for Nova Scotians to pursue their goals. While I may lack the experience and professional criteria that my opponents posses; in their stead I offer a view of the future that is not jaded by old ideas and expectations. I believe that the challenges we face, challenges created by the old ideas of old parties, need new eyes and new ideas. The Green Party offers a complete platform which focuses on creating a sustainable future that is viable for both business and personal interests. I am determined to learn as much as I can from this experience, but also to inject into the debate not just concerns of the present, but the far more urgent concerns of the future. I hope that my presence inspires younger Nova Scotians in Truro and Bible Hill to speak out on issues they care about; issues that impact on their futures.
